Fruit smoothies are a great way to add some extra fruits and veggies to your diet! Especially if you have picky eaters in your household. This is not just a recipe. It’s an easy 6 step process of making smoothies that will not only make a wonderful smoothie but also let you pick and choose a variety of different ingredients! Just follow the steps and you’re good to go.
Step 1: Choose primary fruit(1 cup needed). This will be the primary flavor of your smoothie. Popular choices include strawberries, blueberries, cherries, grapes, peaches, raspberries, mango, oranges, or any other sweet fruit.
Step 2: Choose secondary fruit(1/3 to 1/2 cup needed). This will add depth and more unique flavors to your smoothie. My favorites include strawberry-blueberry, and cherry-mango. This can include blueberries, grapes, bananas, raspberries, blackberries, or any other variety.
Step 3: Add thickness and body to your smoothie. I usually add a whole banana on top of my primary and secondary fruit. Another great way is to add several spoonfuls of yogurt. Most of the time I add a banana and yogurt. You can find organic yogurt at your local grocery with a variety of different flavors or stick to plain. Experimenting with flavored yogurt is always fun and will give you even more flavor!
Step 4: Add the healthy stuff. My weapon of choice that I sneak into my wife’s smoothies is spinach. Any green will work, although some have stronger flavors than others. I avoid kale or arugula as it has a strong flavor that doesn’t play well with others. I add between 5 and 10 spinach leaves with the stems removed. Ground Flax seed is another great add-in. Just a couple of small spoonfuls will do before it starts to get gritty.
Step 5: Add the ice. I add about 1/2 cup but if you don’t like it as sweet, you can make it a full cup.
Step 6: Blend until smooth. I keep blending until I no longer hear any ice raddling around.
That’s it! Check out a few specific recipes below for my favorite smoothies. This process makes 1 tall glass of smoothie or about 1 serving. If you are sharing, then double the amounts. Enjoy!
